Dental Emergencies AlmadenSmiles Dentist in San Jose

Here at Almaden Smiles, we want each of our patients to know that we are here to help them with all dental issues they experience and especially with dental emergencies. Dental emergencies can occur at any time if we are not protecting our teeth as much as we can. If you experience a dental emergency, please call us or come into our office as soon as possible. Below is a list of some of the major dental emergencies that can occur and what we would suggest to do in each situation.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.

Broken or chipped teeth are painful and can occur from eating something hard, severe decay, participating in physical activity, and more. If you break a tooth, call us immediately to get treatment and relief from the pain. If possible, locate the part of your tooth that broke off; if you are in our office quick enough, there is a possibility that your original tooth can be restored. If it is not possible to locate, other dental procedures can be performed to help restore your tooth.

A knocked-out tooth can come from a mere accident or something like participating in physical activity without a mouthguard. If you lose a tooth, locate it and come into our office immediately. There is also a chance with knocked-out teeth that they can be restored. The best thing you can do is keep your tooth socket moist and come into our office as soon as possible to get relief from pain and see what restoration options are available to you.

An abscessed tooth is an infection that starts with your gums and goes down deep into the tooth socket. If not taken care of quickly, the infection can go into the root of your tooth, eventually infecting the pulp of your tooth and permanently damaging the tooth’s nerves. Your tooth socket will fill with puss and cause swelling and pain in your mouth. Your tooth could even loosen and eventually fall out. If you are experiencing pain and inflammation in your gums, you may have an abscessed tooth. Come into our office to get diagnosed and review treatment options.

Other dental emergencies can include severely biting your tongue, excessive bleeding, and tearing tissue in your mouth. Many dental emergencies can be prevented by wearing a mouthguard when necessary, avoiding hard and sticky food, and never opening packaging with your teeth.

No matter what dental problems you experience, we want you to know that Almaden Smiles is here to help you. If you are in the San Jose, California, area, and experience a dental emergency, do not hesitate to call us. We are here and ready to help you.
